I discovered Michael Connelly's character, Harry Bosch, through the Amazon TV series "Bosch", which my best friend from high school helps make. Since then, I've read every Bosch book that has crossed my path. This is one that I have not yet read. Thank you!

Harry Bosch is working in the Open and Unsolved Cases Unit (i.e., cold cases) at RHD (Robbery Homicide Division), after returning to the LAPD after his brief retirement. One of the cases he keeps coming back to in a thirteen year old case he worked as a Hollywood Homicide detective, the disappearance and presumed death of Marie Gesto. When Harry gets a phone call from another detective looking for the file on the case, he learns that recently captured serial killer Raynard Waits is planning to confess to the Gesto murder. Harry is surprised, because he was sure that someone else was responsible. When the other detective points out that Waits called the tip line during Bosch's original investigation, using an alias, and it appears that Bosch missed a chance to capture the serial killer early in his career, Harry's guilt has him questioning everything about the case.

This is another thrilling Bosch story, with Harry pushing the boundaries of the rules to solve the mystery and bring all the bad guys to justice. And while he re-connects with FBI agent Rachel Walling, his reckless actions drive her away from any long term relationship with Harry.

As a fan of the Amazon TV series "Bosch", it was fun to read this book, which forms the basis for one of the primary story lines in the inaugural season of the show. While many of the details of the Raynard Waits story were changed for the show, it was still clearly based upon this book.
