The fourth of the Lensman series. I enjoyed these but it is time to let them go.

Got these through from tehuti - thanks muchly! Grey Lensman is the only one of the series that I have read, so I look forward to reading it again in order! Now I need to find where my other copy went so I can release it.

I finished this morning, and alsthough it was the only one of the series I had read before (and read more than once), I was surprised how little of it I remembered.

Again, the 1970s time of writing did make me laugh a few times... where sorting of data is still done by cards and librarians, and calculating machines can do a calculation and send a message at up to a rate of 10 per minute!

Reading something like this definitely makes you appreciate the amount of progress we have made in the last 30 years, and poor EE 'Doc' Smith would find the Internet an amazing invention, and something he didn't envisage.

I'm interested to read the rest of the books, as it's slightly unusual in this age series to have a strong female lead, and Clarissa only gets more so... although for someone oftentimes described in the books so far as extremely intelligent, it makes one wonder why she is a nurse and not a doctor... although it makes far more sense in the plot, so 'destiny' may have taken a hand there.

I have this on my shelf for a long time nand never read it or any of the series so it is time for it to go travelling. I will release the whole set soon.
