I got this softcover from a local thrift shop, attracted by the cover art - and by the idea of a modern-day murder mystery wrapped around Dickensian scholarship.
Alas, the story itself doesn't include a lot of Dickens - though I did see some comparisons to Dickens' more lurid death scenes in the electrifying (pardon the expression) conclusion of this book {wry grin}. The contrast between the case that college professor and protagonist Beth's mother was involved in during her own college days half a century earlier and the modern-day case that Beth gets involved in make up much of the story, but I admit it didn't keep me riveted.
