I got this softcover at Barnes and Noble. It's a light novel, a prequel to other books in this universe, and it inspired a trilogy of animated films beginning with Kizumonogatari Part 1: Tekketsu.
The premise is entertaining - a student finds a lovely - and horribly maimed - woman one night, discovers that she's a vampire, and allows her to feed from him so she can survive. This turns him into her thrall, and also puts him in the way of the trio of hunters who'd taken her limbs in the first place.
The tone of all this is rather goofy, as narrated by the student; whether this offsets the violence and the angst may depend on the reader's perspective. (It may also be affected by whether you've read the original novel or not; as this is a prequel, it introduces characters and relationships.)
As with previous "light novels" that I've read, this one struck me as a bit TOO light, writing-style-wise; I think I'd have preferred a manga or anime version. But it does have its points!
