I got this softcover from a local thrift shop. It opens with an aging woman in a hospice musing on memories of the ocean; then we shift in time to the childhood of two friends. There's a book that leads the old woman to new memories from her past, and a possible connection between its author and herself - and a series of child's-eye-view events in the past that may mean more to the reader than to the child.
