Just an OK read for me, Amazon says:
Tommy Orange’s “groundbreaking, extraordinary” (The New York Times) There There is the “brilliant, propulsive” (People Magazine) story of twelve unforgettable characters, Urban Indians living in Oakland, California, who converge and collide on one fateful day. It’s “the year’s most galvanizing debut novel” (Entertainment Weekly).
As we learn the reasons that each person is attending the Big Oakland Powwow—some generous, some fearful, some joyful, some violent—momentum builds toward a shocking yet inevitable conclusion that changes everything. Jacquie Red Feather is newly sober and trying to make it back to the family she left behind in shame. Dene Oxendene is pulling his life back together after his uncle’s death and has come to work at the powwow to honor his uncle’s memory. Opal Viola Victoria Bear Shield has come to watch her nephew Orvil, who has taught himself traditional Indian dance through YouTube videos and will to perform in public for the very first time. There will be glorious communion, and a spectacle of sacred tradition and pageantry. And there will be sacrifice, and heroism, and loss.

If you aren't familiar with Bookcrossing, take a few minutes to check out this very cool site. Bookcrossers LOVE books, and more than anything, they love to read books and then set them free for other people to find and enjoy. I would love it if you would leave a journal entry -- you can say where you found the book or how you liked it when you read it. Then, when you are ready, pass it along for someone else to enjoy!
Thanks and happy reading!

Uh-oh, I see I didn’t journal when this arrived.… I’m so sorry. Now I wonder if I journaled the other books and what came with it… Oh, damn damn damn damn.
At any rate, I just got on just say I’m about to start this book. I brought several books up to see what I wanted to read next, and when I opened this and the first thing I see is a quote from one of my very favorite playwright, Bertolt Brecht, I am mediately knew this had to be the next read.
Thanks for sending this on NancyNova, I hope it’s one I really enjoy.
ps
Looking at the date, it must’ve arrived either just as I was leaving, or while I was gone to Sundance down on the Dineh reservation ~which doesn’t excuse my not journaling, but helps explain what may have happened.
