The Memory Keeper's Daughter

A doctor delivers his own wife's babies, twins. He orders his nurse to take the baby girl to an institution, because the infant has Down Syndrome, and tells his wife that their little girl died.
The doctor keeps at a distance from his wife and son while he holds back his secret. The wife keens for her lost daughter. The son cannot help but sense the gaps in the family relationships. The nurse does exceptionally well under the circumstances.
An electrifying premise. Unfortunately, the way it plays out is disappointing. There is quite a bit of heavy-handed symbolism and irony.
