I thought this was extremely well done and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Great storyline and characters. Some of my favorite characters were actually the teachers, but all the characters were wonderful. Lots of diversity of representation, too. The book offers younger readers a few solid life lessons without coming across as the least bit preachy. This is the first book in a series and I definitely plan to continue on with the others. Recommended!

Thanks so much for the package of books, which arrived safely today over the icy roads! This one is by the author of Dramacon, which I enjoyed very much; looking forward to it!

Later: A very entertaining book, one I'd have loved to have had when I was in junior high - though I might not have had the same reaction to it then as I do now! It presents heroine Peppi as a girl who's very sensitive to ridicule, to the point where on her first day at a new school she shoves away a boy who's stopped to help her after she dropped her books - because the other kids immediately began teasing her about him. She feels terrible about it afterwards and vows to apologize, but time passes and she never quite finds a way to do it - and then she discovers that the science student who'll be tutoring her is none other than Jaime!

While this running subplot continues, there's plenty else going on. Peppi's in the art club, while Jaime's in the science club - and there's a longstanding war between the clubs, apparently instigated mainly by a couple of the cruder science kids. (The teachers in charge of each club seem responsible and decent, but they could have intervened in this situation a lot earlier than they did. Just sayin'.) Anyway, the rivalry triggers pranks that get both clubs banned from a much-coveted upcoming event, but they can compete for a place by finding a way to use their respective talents to benefit the school. Cue lots of wackiness regarding providing cartoons for the school paper, with accidental interference with the science kids' project, along with Jaime and Peppi's tentative Capulet/Montague friendship...

So will Peppi ever apologize? And which club will win the slot at the event? Will Peppi get over her awkwardness enough to stand up for herself and others? Read it and find out!
