And it has arrived here. Thank you estelle1806, and thank you for the tea, Christmas card and tree ornament! Here's wishing you a wonderful Christmas too!

I enjoyed this to an extent. I've visited both Paris and San Francisco, so it was nice to have both as the setting. The translation is good, only a couple of little niggles, for instance Anvers is Antwerp in English. The story was OK. The 'departure lounge' bit, which I won't elaborate on here to avoid spoilers, annoyed me at first because I didn't want the story to go in that kind of direction. But I guess it grew on me and in the end I thought it functioned quite well.
Thanks for sharing! I wasn't familiar with this author and while I don't know that I'd necessarily seek out more of his books, I was glad of the opportunity to read it.

Finished this one. Romance just isn't my thing, so I must admit I disliked this story.
I will send this one on to Lamilla.

Romance is not really my thing, but I'd expect this book would appeal to fans of that genre. I did like the art-world setting for the parts of the story that happened in France.

Received with thanks. Romance is also not my usual pick, but I'd happily read it.

Journal Entry 20 by wingmcsarwing at Richmond, British Columbia Canada on Wednesday, October 14, 2020
I enjoyed this one much more than I expected. Romance is not really my usual genre, but the added element of a thriller and the art thefts increased my enjoyment of the book. I found the beginning a bit too lovey-dovey, then the crime began and I was enjoying the book. Like Fifna, I also disliked the 'departure lounge' bit. I grew to accept it, but not embracing it. I am happy to have read it.

All received here ... thank you 👍

Journal Entry 25 by wingdark-dracowing at Ledbury, Herefordshire United Kingdom on Sunday, December 27, 2020
Hmm. A bit up and down for me. Started reading and was thinking it wasn't for me - the whole teenage love affair wasn't my thing. Then we had the art heists and the chase, and I loved it...definitely my cup of tea. Then it bounced back and forth between liking it and getting really frustrated with it ... however, weirdly, I liked the supernatural bit at the end, but it didn't really sit well with the rest of the story.

I think that was my biggest problem with the book - the constantly changing styles just got a bit annoying after a while, although I'm happy to give the author the benefit of the doubt and maybe blame the translator!

That said, I did read the whole thing just to see how it would all end. It was entertaining and there were some amusing moments. Not sure I would check out other books by this author, but I also wouldn't necessarily avoid him either.

Journal Entry 28 by wingearthcaroleannewing at Falkirk, Scotland United Kingdom on Tuesday, August 17, 2021
Judging a book by its cover, I wasn’t really expecting to enjoy this. However, like mcsar, I enjoyed the thrill of the chase more than the romance, especially as it was set in the art world. Archibald McLean reminded me a little of Flambeau in the Father Brown books as the uncatchable gentleman thief. Plus, I really loved the way the threads all knitted together – very clever plotting. I was confused at first with the departure lounge but weirdly, I thought it worked.

Journal Entry 31 by wingCross-patchwing at Leicester, Leicestershire United Kingdom on Tuesday, August 31, 2021
Quite a patchwork, I feel. Like others I wouldn’t choose a romance to read and this one hasn’t convinced me otherwise. But, on the other hand I thought that the Departure Lounge worked well to tie the ends together. Thank you Estelle1806 for bringing this author to my attention.

Gabrielle and Martin meet in San Francisco and fall in love, but Martin has to return to France. He gives up his ambition to become a writer and becomes a policeman (for some reason 'flic' is the only word in the book which is not translated from the French and I have no idea why). He lives an unhappy and loveless existence in which the only thing he cares about is catching a famous art thief. Of course, you know even from the back cover that he will go back to San Francisco and that Gabrielle will be involved in his case. I'm afraid I didn't like this book. The writing isn't great (I wonder about the standard of the translation), the plot is trite, I really disagree that a woman needs to be defended by fists, the way Archibald manipulates Martin is unpleasant, and the airport lounge scene is cringeworthy. It's a great choice for the roundabout though as it's definitely not something I would have picked up and it made me try something different.
