Your neighbour told you that she didn't want your six-month-old daughter at the dinner party. Nothing personal, she just couldn't stand her crying.

Your husband said it would be fine. After all, you only live next door. You'll have the baby monitor and you'll take it in turns to go back every half hour.

Your daughter was sleeping when you checked on her last. But now, as you race up the stairs in your deathly quiet house, your worst fears are realized. She's gone.

You've never had to call the police before. But now they're in your home, and who knows what they'll find there.

This is a fast paced no-messing type of read, within the first half dozen pages it's straight in with the disappearance of baby Cora.. & already I couldn't help my thoughts racing ahead as to all the possibilities that could have led to this event. Well, I was right with some of my thoughts but to be fair I got so caught up in the story that each development, even ones I'd thought of, seemed to catch me a bit by surprise.

It's a very easy read but rather than that detracting from the quality of the story, the fast pacedness accentuated the speed at which things were happening to the couple & somehow kept it "real" to me. The horror of the couple's situation opened up beautifully & the way it was presented made me feel as if I was seeing the character's thoughts - whether I agreed or not with their thinking...& thus their actions.. I could see how these musings seemed logical to them. "Oh, what a tangled web we weave...." indeed!

Writing this review has made me reflect on the credibility of some aspects of the story but at the time of reading it all seemed completely plausible, which is all that matters to me ;o)
