Doris Price is thirteen years old. She is a wise-mouth girl who is wounded and has to bid her childhood good-bye. She watches TV in her bedroom and eats Mallomars, potato chips and pepsi, supplied by her anxious mother. She enters young womanhood weighing 257 pounds. Life is not kind to her and she is not strong enough to deal with it well. But she is determined to "rise to the occasion" and give life one more chance.
