In this electrifying sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale, Margaret Atwood answers the question that has tantalised readers for decades: What happened to Offred?

Margaret Atwood’s dystopian masterpiece, The Handmaid’s Tale, is a modern classic. Now she brings the iconic story to a dramatic conclusion in this riveting sequel.
More than fifteen years after the events of The Handmaid’s Tale, the theocratic regime of the Republic of Gilead maintains its grip on power, but there are signs it is beginning to rot from within. At this crucial moment, the lives of three radically different women converge, with potentially explosive results.

Two have grown up as part of the first generation to come of age in the new order. The testimonies of these two young women are joined by a third voice: a woman who wields power through the ruthless accumulation and deployment of secrets.

As Atwood unfolds The Testaments, she opens up the innermost workings of Gilead as each woman is forced to come to terms with who she is, and how far she will go for what she believes.

‘Dear Readers: Everything you’ve ever asked me about Gilead and its inner workings is the inspiration for this book. Well, almost everything! The other inspiration is the world we’ve been living in.' Margaret Atwood

Across the sea and here it be. Thanks, LadyI. I look forward to reading it - so much so that it's next in the queue. I'll pass it on to c-t when I'm done.

Oh, yes! Closure at last. Gilead crumbles as it eats its own young. It's just a pity it's been turned into a young adult fantasy - The Handmaid's Tale light, the watered down, snowflake edition.

It's not a bad yarn on its own, but it's a poor follow up to the original. It's more like a conclusion to the TV series than a sequel to the book. Suffice to say, I'll have to get the sugariness of this one out of my mouth by re-reading Handmaid.

There are lots of reviews on GoodReads so I'm not going to go on about it.

I'm glad to have read it, even though I'm disappointed.

Thanks again, LadyIndigo. This is now heading on to crimson-tide.

What an absolutely lovely surprise! Certainly wasn't expecting this to turn up. Such a beautiful, big, new, hardcover, wishlist book... ! :D
Thank you so very much to both catsalive and LadyIndigo.

Have heard a number of differing responses to the book, so will be interesting to see for myself.
