Reading through reviews, it seems this book is very polarizing - people either love it or hate it.

Well, I fall into the "love it" camp. I've seen this book for many years and had just never picked it up for some reason. But it all changed when I watched the recently released mini-series featuring Matthew Goode as Matthew Clairmont (swoon). I really liked the show, so decided to give the book a try.

I'll admit that the book is overly long, and has some unnecessary filler. But overall, I really enjoyed the story. Sure, Diana can be a bit pathetic sometimes - but she's also very likeable. And sure, there's a lot of falling in love/lust very quickly and making irrational decisions, but meh - such is life. I became easily sucked in to the various storylines, the characters, their backstories, the settings, the history, the humor, and of course the paranormal aspects of the tale. The author is actually a pretty good writer, too, so that's a bonus. Special shout-out to the house Diana's Aunts live in (so creative!) and Tabitha the cat, who adores Matthew (purrrrr).

All in all, this just worked for me and I've already bought the next two books in the series.

My sweet beau bought me this book in hardcover for my birthday, so it will be added to my PC.
