Kinsey Millhone's elderly neighbour, Gus, takes a fall and Kinsey does the background check on Solana Rojas, hired to nurse him - but she doesn't look deeply enough. Gus is in serious trouble and Kinsey will have to use all her resources to help him. Could she have met her match in Solana? Meanwhile she has cases on the go, a car accident that wasn't all it seems. This is a real page turner, with high suspense all the way to the end.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
On its way to Paws4Books.
Arrived safely - thanks so much for sharing. Just started reading it after a small break from Sue Grafton it’ll be interesting getting back to the world of Kinsey again!
It took a while to get into but I got more absorbed over time. The main story occurs whilst Kinsey has to track down a witness - multi tasking.
We get an opportunity to see Kinsey from the bad persons view point which I rather liked.
Vulnerable people experiencing financial abuse, emotional abuse and physical too. ..something I’ve covered in safeguarding training so fairly familiar
My main dislike was Grafton needing to go into detail about her research into real estate other than that not too bad really!

An interesting and chilling departure from other books in the series, with suspense built up in a different way. It was quite long compared to the other books, but in some ways this was justified by the three different main threads running through the story, showing a wider range of the things Kinsey does as part of her job as a PI. There were some particularly disturbing parts connected to Gus and to Tiny, so be warned if you choose to read this.
