Seit Jahren lag das Buch zuoberst auf einem Stapel in meiner Leseecke, aber ich habe mich gescheut, es aufzuschlagen, da mir klar war, dass der Roman an Ereignisse in meiner frühen Jugend rührt, die ich gern vergessen hätte.
Und so kam es dann auch: selten hat mich ein Buch emotional so durchgeschüttelt wie dieses.
Dabei fand ich die Sprache anfangs so grottenschlecht, dass ich beinahe nach ca. 30 Seiten abgebrochen hätte. Dann hatte mich aber die Story schon so gepackt, dass ich weiterlesen musste.
Die Autorin hatte mich in Athen tief beeindruckt, obwohl mir zu dem Zeitpunkt noch gar nicht klar war, was für ein außergewöhnliches Leben sie hatte und wie dieses sie geprägt hat. Dazu wusste ich nicht, dass sich der Roman "Achilles' Fiancée" um ihren Lebensweg rankt und großenteils autobiografisch ist.

Zur Story:
Paris 1967. Eleni, die eigentlich Daphne heißt (Eleni ist ihr Deckname aus dem Widerstand), ist zum zweiten Mal in ihrem Leben ins Exil gezwungen worden, diesmal wegen des Terrors der Militärjunta in Griechenland. Sie verdient sich zusammen mit anderen griechischen Exilanten als Statistin in einem Actionfilm ein paar Francs. Während des Drehs erinnert sie, die nie jemand anderes als "die Verlobte des Achilles" gewesen ist, sich an verschiedene Phasen aus ihrem Leben.
