The protagonist of Zadie Smith's book, The Autograph Man, is half-Jewish and half-Chinese, and this makes for some interesting cultural observations. He is a dealer in celebrity signatures, although not a very successful one. The book gets off to a great start but after this slows right down. The plot is ok and the humour is good. The book got some rave reviews together with some that were less favourable. Like a lot of people, I bought the book because I really enjoyed White Teeth. I found Autograph Man harder work, but I hope someone out there will enjoy this catch.
