Carrie

Maybe because I've seen the movie and Carrie just seems like part of the American psyche, maybe that is the reason I found the book anti-climactic and dated. I would have done better with this book if I had read it as a total stranger to the story. But there are certain things he brings up which are huge problems. #1 is bullying. Carrie had to use her superpower, now we just seem to have guns available for unstable and bullied kids to do their killing with. #2 is politicians wanting to sweep truth under the rug, put the spin on things. Guns don't kill, people do. Well, for heaven's sake, guns in the hands of unstable and bullied children kill when those kids start pulling the trigger. #3 the influence of intelligent and charming but socially ostracized individuals on people of low IQ and friendless status. How do people get caught up in doing bad things? Why is a group dangerous? I love Stephen King for bringing social issues to our awareness while feeding us scary and scandalous stories. It's like mom sneaking veggies into the spaghetti sauce. You don't even realize you are getting a dose of good for you while you are reading.
Putting into the Intentional Variety book box.
