Book Three of the Crazy Rich Asians Trilogy
Nicholas Young's grandmother Su Yi is on her deathbed. While he rushes to be by her bedside, he's not the only one. The entire Shang-Young clan has convened from all corners of the globe to stake claim on their matriarch's massive fortune. With all parties vying to inherit a trophy estate in the heart of Singapore, Nicholas's childhood home turns into a hotbed of sabotage and scandal. A sweeping novel that takes us from elegantly appointed mansions in Manila to secluded private islands in the Sulu Sea, from a kidnapping at Hong Kong's most elite private school to a surprise marriage proposal at an Indian palace, caught on camera by the telephoto lenses of paparazzi, Kevin Kwan's gloriously wicked new novel reveals the long-buried secrets of Asia's most privileged families and their rich people problems.

I came across all three books of this trilogy on a free bookshelf and decided to take them home with me. I have never before read a book that's set in Asia and after reading the first few lines of the first book, I was intrigued.
The cultural conventions in the upper class of China are so different from what I know and the funny part is that Rachel, the lead character, who has Asian heritage but grew up in America, has no knowledge of the required etiquette as well. It leads to a lot of complications when she finds out her sweet boyfriend Nicholas is not just a Chinese student, but a very wealthy Chines student. The way she finds out he's not just a student, is quite a shock for her; thinking they're just going on a vacation, but then suddenly being introduced to all his wealthy family members. Moreover, she finds out the hard way that they are not at all happy about Nicholas' choice for a common American girl.
During the course of the three books, there is a lot of backstabbing and plotting to get rid of her, but how it ends... well, you have to read that for yourself. I enjoyed reading this trilogy and I do think you should read all three in a row.
