When Harriet Westaway receives an unexpected letter telling her she's inherited a substantial bequest from her Cornish grandmother, it seems like the answer to her prayers. There's just one problem - Hat's real grandparents died more than twenty years ago.
Hat desperately needs the cash and makes a choice that will change her life forever. She knows that her skills as a seaside fortune teller could help her con her way to getting the money.
But once Hat embarks on her deception, there is no going back. She must keep going or risk losing everything, even her life...

Well this has been done before - a creepy house in Cornwall with a nasty servant - no prizes for guessing where the author got her inspiration from. That said though she put a good twist on the tale and the characters were quite believable - even the heroine was flawed. What with debt collectors and crazy relatives, its a wonder she survived at all. In fact this book could be a warning that despite the current obsession with ancestry.uk and DNA testing, tracing lost relatives may not always be a good idea!!!

I actually enjoyed the atmospheric scene setting much more than the mystery that followed and the book rather lost my attention at the point where it probably was supposed to be rushing forwards. No spoilers but I was disappointed by the number of loose ends left behind.
I have listed the book on bookmooch.com, let's see what happens to it next.
