This is #3 in the Hirsch series

Winter in Tiverton. Constable Paul Hirschhausen has a snowdropper on his patch. Someone is stealing women's underwear, and Hirsch knows enough about that kind of crime-how it can escalate-not to take it lightly. But the more immediate concerns are a call from the high school, a teacher worried about a student who may be in danger at home.

Another call, a different school- a man enraged about the principal's treatment of his daughter. A little girl in harm's way and an elderly woman in danger. An absent father who isn't where he's supposed to be; another who flees to the back country armed with a rifle. Families under pressure. And the cold, seeping feeling that something is very, very wrong.

About the Author

Garry Disher has published fifty titles across multiple genres. He has won multiple German Crime Prize and Ned Kelly awards, including the Ned Kelly Lifetime Achievement Award.

edit to add - "Consolation" is Winner of the 2021 Ned Kelly Award for Best Crime Fiction

The third in this series and another very good read. Constable Paul "Hirsch" Hirschhausen is just such a great protagonist, an all round nice guy, but with a few human failings to keep it real. Very entertaining novel, I hope there'll be more in the series.

This novel is reliably good and great reading. There is enough action to keep you turning the pages due to Disher’s masterful pacing and intricate plots, as well as his wry social observations which leave others in his shade. Consolation is the third book in the excellent Hirsch series, compelling crime writing by Garry Disher.

Another skillfully written story from Garry Disher in which he delivers real insight into life in a small isolated community with its wide variety of characters, from wealthy property owners to the more impoverished living on the fringes. In Hirsch, Disher has created a very likeable character with a temperament well suited to rural policing. Overall this nicely paced story abounds with Aussie small town authenticity...

This has successfully made the journey to France. In the meantime I have read the first two in this (so far) trilogy, so am ready to continue Paul Hirschhausen’s adventures. Lovely card, by the way. I will try to get through this soon, but have some other books that are ahead of it in the line-up. Thanks so much for making this available and for sending.

This is here as a ring and I bought the first two in the trilogy to see how we got here. I am glad I did as I enjoyed watching the character evolve and to have been at the start of his arrival in this back of beyond place he's been posted to.
Initially I struggled because I didn't much like the main character (and that's always awkward for me as I don't like spending a great deal of time with people I don't like). Little by little he became far more likeable. My husband pointed out that it was also perhaps because he seemed to begin liking himself more.
This is the last in the series at present, but I certainly hope it continues. As ever, I am grateful to bookcrossing for allowing me to discover a new author.
I am waiting for the next address. Thanks so much for making this available and for sending.

I really enjoyed this book. I thought it was well written with a good plot and interesting characters. The writer was great at conveying what it's like trying to do a job when you have more tasks than there is time to complete them in and you feel like you are a juggler. I'll definitely be looking out for the others in this series. Thanks for sharing Edwardstreet. I've PMed the next person in line.

Book has safely arrived in Australia that wasn't bad going at all with the way mail deliveries are here I really thought it would arrive in the New Year. I've just started another book so I shall put this next in line

I don't kmow how I managed to go all these years without reading Garry Disher very remiss of me of cause now I'll have to go hunting for the first two in the series. Excellent writing style and believable characters my only quibble I think for such an area there was perhaps a little too much going on which was a bit of a distrtaction.

Going in the Australian bookbag

Journal Entry 22 by wingJean-Solwing at Melbourne CBD, Victoria Australia on Thursday, March 24, 2022
Well I intercepted this book before Bill put it in the bookbag and I am very pleased to have done so! Not only it is very well-travelled (it even went not far from my birth town on the Old Continent!) but I though I had read it and turns out I read the previous instalment of the series and this is on my to-read list. Bingo! Thanks billsbooks!

Another great Hirsch novel. Disher is such a great writer and this "rural noir" series doesn't disappoint. Now to get the 4rth instalment in the series, which has been published recently. Meanwhile this book is going to another local BCer.

Passed onto me from Jean-Sol, thank you. It is winter in Tiverton, and Paul ‘Hirsch’ Hirschhausen is now part of the community. He has a snowdropper on his patch, stealing women’s underwear, and he needs to catch him before things escalate. He receives a call from a teacher concerned about a young girl who maybe in danger, and a father on a rampage at the local primary school. This is the third in this series, and Disher’s writing is so descriptive of the Australian country, and his characters are very well developed. Such a great read.

I went to the book crossing meet up today. Had a nice French toast with fresh strawberries and couldn’t resist taking a couple of books to my mount to be read.

I was told this is a very good crime series. So I am looking forward to it. Crimes mysteries are my favourite and I couldn't resist the Constable's name Hirschhausen :D And such a very well travelled book.
