Caught at Cassandra2020's Roslin meet today. Thank you!
When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit didn't have as much drama or emotion as other classic children's stories about WWII (such as Goodnight Mister Tom, I am David, etc) but it was a nice wee read. I'm not sure how well it would work as an aid to teaching children about the background to WWII and Hitler's policies, because most tension in the story relies on the reader knowing what is happening - and will happen - to Jews in Germany and France who are less fortunate to escape as the narrator does.
I guess overall the novel wasn't what I was expecting and I'm a bit disappointed by that. But it is well-written, and an important story in its own right.
