Thank you so much for granting a wish

5 Sep 2021 - This is a hard book to review for me. The neglect of poor Simon is horrific and I am so glad he was found a nice place to heal and live. Simon sounds like a proper character and I almost wished I lived closer to become one of his many visitors. I also like the stories of his other animals on the farm, although his comments about getting dogs from breeders seemed a bit out of place. It was Jon himself I struggled with, he felt quite repetitive at times. I’m not sure I agree with how he felt about the farmer who was responsible for Simons neglect, everyone has a choice and the farmer really should of done something before Simon got to that state. The bond between Simon and Jon was lovely as was the bond between Maria and Rocky which is I found myself questioning how they dealt with the the Simon and Rocky situation. Living in the UK and being used to the fact that donkeys are pretty common, I had never really given much thought to the fact they are quite unusual in America.

Not supposed to be acquiring more books, however this looks like a really lovely light, inspiring read.

Journal Entry 15 by wingjax987654321wing at Wembley, Greater London United Kingdom on Monday, November 15, 2021
I really enjoyed this book and read it within 24 hours, which is very quick for me. It got a little slow towards the end however.

He is clearly a good writer which is great as this is a really good story to be told. His thoughts on compassion and not just being compassionate about animals and people who are "nice" is challenging and also the idea of being pragmatic about it being the right time for an animal to be put to sleep and the kindness of not doing huge amounts of treatment that will not make much difference to an animals life span, however might keep them with us for a short time. This has always been my approach to hamsters, I will give anti-biotics, pain killers when it will make a difference, however usually it doesn't.

Glad I read this though.

I already have books travelling in many countries around the world-a list can be found on my bookcrossing profile.

When re-releasing this book please be aware that airports are not a good place to leave books unless they have a specific book exchange shelf or area, due to security problems, so they may well just be disposed of. Also charity shops may well discard books that have been labelled in any way and they mostly chose only the books in the very best condition
to place on their shelves and discard the rest-so another bad release option.

REVIEW:-"This was an easy-reading, mainly positive book but I did find it a little heavy and repetitive on the philosophy at times. It was shocking to hear of the ill treatment of Simon the donkey but good to read of how he survived to enjoy life again. "
Reserved for my friend Eddy who plans to take a pile of books to Santander bank to be sold in aid of the Alzheimers Society.
