I found this slim hardcover at the ongoing book sale at the Dunstable MA public library. Set in rural India, it deals with young Kali, from the Irula tribe - known for their abilities as snake-catchers, among other things - and his reluctance to attend school when he'd rather be helping his father catch snakes. When a large rat snake invades the schoolroom, Kali gets a chance to show his classmates what he's capable of, and changes his own perspective about school.

I found this book at the Little Free Library on Rust Street in Hamilton, MA, USA. The day was Tuesday, June 9, 2020. It was the farthest I had walked away from my house since COVID-19 "lockdown" had started on March 13, 2020. Honestly I probably would not have taken this book except I noticed the traveling book ID # so I thought it would be fun for my children. My husband read the book to my children soon after I brought it home and I just had a chance to read it myself today on June 24, 2020. We will put it in a different Little Free Library tomorrow morning in hopes that Kali's journey continues. There are more snakes to be caught!
