The Bird Artist

This book takes place at the turn of the 20th century in Canada. It is the story of the life of a boy as he grows into a man and the relationships he develops in a very isolated environment. He becomes an artist of birds and is draws them obsessively. The story opens with his revealing that he has killed the lighthouse keeper and the rest of the story proceeds to explain what led to such an action.
I found the book to be very catching. I didn't want to stop reading it. I wanted to know what happened next and it was well written, however, I cannot say that it was page turning excitment. I was intrested in the characters, but they also seemed a bit flat to me. I did enjoy this book, but I was hoping for more based on the reviews.

I don't usually read fiction, so this was a change for me. Even so, I found that the book was an engaging read: the story was compelling and the language interesting. I wouldn't say that it will become a great classic and it won't be a beloved of mine, but it was worth checking out.

I found this book on the table in our lunch room at work. I was drawn to it as it has a lighthouse on cover, and I collect lighthouses. I then read the description and thought this looks interesting and read the label. I thought this is a great idea! What a fun way to share books! I intend to read myself and pass it on.
