This is one of seven books I bought to restock my depleted bookshelves during a quick tour of our local charity shops this morning, although I actually found this one on the discard shelves at our local library. I chose it because I've previously enjoyed this author's memoirs, Too Many Mothers, and thought I'd appreciate her novel as well.

1963: The Big Freeze, Beatniks, Ban the Bomb, Aldermaston Marches . . . it's all here as the back drop to a story of love, secrets, jealousy and all sorts of interwoven relationships. A good read which I enjoyed getting lost it.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
To Tree-hugger who gave me Too Many Mothers inthe first place! Enjoy :-)
Thanks for passing this novel my way Nu-Knees. It had some really good ingredients but I just wish the author had slowed down a bit. The chapters were very short, like she thought she had to whip through the plot super quick for fear of losing the reader's attention, but I'd have liked her to linger a little and flesh it all out a bit more. Still, it was a good story set in a very interesting time. I wasn't around for the early sixties myself, and found it fascinating to be taken into that period, especially the offices and homes, and to think about the options open to young women at that time.
