This book was first published in 1981 but the setting is in Brussels in the winter of 1979. The backdrop is a British General Election and a political debate about Britain's membership of the European Union. This could so easily be placed in 2019 in many ways and just the fact that there are no mobiles phones, computers and no fast trains through the Eurotunnel between London and Brussels somehow dates it. And oh yeah, everyone still smokes everywhere ! It was gripping, fast paced and a real page turner. I am glad Peter May had decided to re publish this story. As to the future of Great Britain in Europe - then and now - no one knows !!
