Two people are destined to meet each other in each reincarnation of their lives. Starting in France in a time of religious persecution, Eve is a member of a minority religious sect and Leo is a boy forced to join the crusade against them. The pair then keep aspects of these lives when they become a novice and an inquisitor in Spain, a mother and son in Poland, slaves in Oman and then a couple in modern day Yorkshire. Although I didn't feel that the historical atmosphere was captured quite as well as it could have been (Burnett says herself that she's not a historian) the variety of different depictions and the changing relationships of the characters in each is imaginative and original. It's an interesting read although I didn't like the ending - forgiveness is not the same thing as allowing someone toxic to remain in your life!

I liked the characterisation, and it was a really interesting idea. However I found myself wishing there were fewer stories and that they were gone into with more depth. The ending was a bit unrealistic.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
The book ring continues to Yorkshire-lass
Safely with me, it's next on my list to start, within the next couple of days I hope.
I'm so sorry but I just can't get into this book. Any other time I would just put it down and try again in a few months, but as this is a ring for the Uncon I think it best if I send it on to the next person in the line and hope they have more luck with it than I have :-)
This is now on its way to earthcaroleanne, hope you enjoy it :-)
Arrived today. My (stupid) postman put it in my food waste container so when I arrived home I put it straight out on the pavement for collection. Fortunately I had to go out with something extra to add to the bin and found the package. Why would anyone put a cardboard covered packaged parcel in a puddle of rotting food juice? Especially since I have a Royal Mail request posted on my door saying take parcels back to the depot. At least it is here and the book is OK.
