Currently reading this. Had to buy it after watching the American Crime Story series The People V. O.J. Simpson.

Bought this from The Works as it was in the sale for just £2.00

Blurb: "The definite account of the O.J. Simpson trial, The People v. O.J. Simpson is a prodigious feat of reporting that could only have been written by the foremost legal journalist of our time.

Writing less than a year after the infamous verdict, Jeffrey Toobin explores the secret dealings and manoeuvring on both sides of the case, and how a combination of the prosecution's overconfidence, the defence's shrewdness, and the Los Angeles Police Department's incendiary history with the city's African-American community, gave a jury what it needed: reasonable doubt.

Rich in character, as propulsive as a legal thriller, this enduring narrative continues to shock and fascinate with its candid depiction of the human drama that upended the world. The People v. O.J. Simpson tells the whole story, from the murders of Nicole Bown Simpson and Ronald Goldman to the ruthless gamesmanship behind the scenes of the trial of the century."

Having watched the awesome TV series, I just had to buy this book, and I'm so glad I did as this goes into so much more detail than the Ryan Murphy TV show - although I did imagine all the people in this book as the actors who played them in the TV show, rather than actually imagining the real people.

It was such a beautifully written non-fiction book, so much so that Jeffrey Toobin takes the reader right into every single scene with his amazing written flare.

It's hard to read this or even talk about this without adding your own input and thoughts on whether OJ Simpson did it or not. However, it's abundantly clear he had a good group of lawyers on his side, and they defended him well.

Having been born around the time of the murders, I literally knew nothing about this case before the Ryan Murphy TV show, American Crime Story. I was aware of little bits here and there, especially when OJ Simpson got convicted for another crime in 2008 and even more so when he was released a couple of years ago. But I still didn't know much about it and therefore going into this book with my little knowledge and what I had learned from the TV show made this beyond interesting, to me, from start to finish.

Written superbly, this is definitely one of those books you don't want to put down.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

Left this on the "Book Swap" shelf, there were about 6 books there. I was tempted to take a couple home but I'm being good as I'm trying to lower my mountain of books, rather than gain more - at the moment.
