I read this book quite a while ago. I don't actually remember a whole lot of it.
I think I remember it being fun to read but it didn't have a huge impact on me. It is based on a real story and real people but obviously I wasn't that invested.
I don't know if it was me or the book, as I read it too long ago.

This lucky little book had become part of a trade! :)
So off it goes! ;)

The big-box-o-trade-books arrived safely today; many thanks!
Later: the concept here was great fun! In 1817 Galveston, pirate ("Privateer!") Jean Lafitte and tough-guy and land speculator (and slave trader, though the comic doesn't mention that) Jim Bowie become friends - and promptly get involved in a running battle against a rival pirate ("Privateer!") for control of the port city. Complications include the touchy tempers of both men, Lafitte's fondness for a certain woman, and the ever-volatile goings-on in the city - with a climax that includes hidden gold, a stealth attack on the enemy's ship, and some timely backup from Bowie's Commanche allies.
All that said, I found the pacing a bit off, and the artwork sketchy; at times I had trouble recognizing the characters by appearance at all. But the buddy-adventure idea was fun, and all the more so when I learned that Bowie and Lafitte *did* know each other, even if they didn't get up to quite the same level of adventure as in the comic!
