The Midnight Hunt
2 journalers for this copy...
This is a paranormal romance, so I tried not to pick on it for stumbling through the usual tropes like instant supernatural love-connections, or lots of slapdash sex scenes, or magical powers that make you constantly horny! I probably would have been a lot less tolerant if it had been a hetro romance, but the sheer novelty of a lesbian werewolf story and engaging characters helped hoist me through the rough patches.
I was also a little surprised that the cover copy gives away some events that don't happen in the initial set up, and kind of gives away the big tension towards the end. It meant I was on the look out for them, and I wasn't able to let things grow as naturally as I think it would have felt if the cover had less of a spoiler. It made me wonder how the author felt about that impact on readers.

Sent to the winner of the Lesbian Sweeps
The INTL Lesbian-themed fiction sweepstakes books keep coming! The books arrived safely on this warm day; many thanks! (This one has a handsome rainbow-flag LGBT Pride bookplate, too!)
Later: Some interesting twists on the paranormal-romance setup, involving female werewolves whose anatomies sometimes sounded closer to that of hyenas - which would have been an even more interesting spin on lycanthropy, though hyenas have much worse press than wolves do {wry grin}. There's an intricate societal structure and loads of details about the nature of the change, and if perhaps more space was spent on setup than I'd have liked, the fact that this is the first of a series may explain that. I was pleased to find that while the focus is on the female romances, there are other characters who are gay, bi, or otherwise genderfluid.
