FROM BACK COVER: When a woman unexpectedly loses her lifelong best friend and mentor, she finds herself burdened with the dog he left behind. Now her own battle against grief is intensified by the mute suffering of a huge Great Dane, and by the threat of eviction. While others worry that grief has made her a victim of magical thinking, she refuses to be separated from the dog except for brief periods of time. Determined to read its mind and fathom its heart, she comes dangerously close to unraveling. But surprising rewards lie in store for both of them

I'm reading this now. This is the 1st book I've read by this author and it will also be the only book I read by her. She quotes old authors on every page and the rest is paragraphs of mostly boring personal stories. So I plan to finish this to see what happens to the dog and then will share with someone
09/28/2019 0kay I finished reading this...most of the time I felt like I was reading someone's footnotes of some shitty report...But there were 2 paragraphs of something that happened IRL so I liked those. The characters were good and I liked the story and even the ending, even tho it included my least favorite cliche in a story but I don't want to write a spoiler here
