The King's Curse by Philippa Gregory - Good
Ah, you always know where you are with Phillipa Gregory. This time we are following Margaret Pole....or Margaret of York as she was born. One of the last Plantagenet princesses, a granddaughter of Edward III.
That she managed to survive into the Tudor reign and live to her sixties is remarkable in itself... she survives where most of her family are imprisoned and executed. How innocent of plotting was she? No one really knows. The author is adept at writing the story from the perspective of her lead character and usually researches her subject well (although in this case I did notice at least one, minor, error) but whilst history tells us that Margaret plotted and was accused of treason Ms Gregory sees it as being loyal to her origins and trying to protect those around her that she served (She was Guardian to Prince Arthur, ran his household when he married Katherine of Aragon, became her chief lady in waiting after her marriage to Henry VIII and then became Governess to Princess Mary).
The usual good read and diffent perspective on a story many know very well...or think they do.
