I got this softcover anthology at the Book Cellar, before the monthly book-group; I was pleased to find another release copy. It's by the author of Time and Again and other works that I've enjoyed.

This is a good collection! Some stories are relatively light-hearted, others poignant, and some quite disturbing - all on the theme of time travel and how it might be used. There are wishful-thinking stories in which people long to travel back to a simpler time - sometimes they make it, and sometimes things don't go as planned. There's a charming tale of a family whose new neighbors are a little... odd; turns out they're time-travelers, with cautionary tales about the perils of hopping into other times without due preparation, but the story stays light-hearted despite the potential disasters.

Among the more light-hearted tales is one about a person who uses time-travel to acquire new works by authors who died in other time-streams - one of the titles mentioned here in passing is Time and Again, "an odd kind of book by someone or other I never heard of, but not too bad" {wry grin}.

"Of Missing Persons" turned out to be an old favorite, a tale I'd read in an anthology decades ago - this one with the bittersweet plot twist that the person who really wanted to jump to that marvelous alternate world chickened out at the last minute.

Another tale deals with an Inspector-Javert expy who has learned that some criminals have successfully escaped into the past - and wants them returned to face justice. The person in charge of the time traveling has... other ideas...

Other tales involve unexpected moments of joy, regrets about a world in which people focus entirely on the past or future at the expense of the present, and more. Good collection!
