I got this ex-library hardcover from Better World Books. It contains illustrations on the theme of exploring creativity, by cartoonist Grant Snider, whose website Incidental Comics I follow regularly.
The entries can be charming, or thought-provoking, or rather punny - and sometimes all of the above. The panel "Trains of Thought" goes from "A streetcar named Desire" to "a handcar called Delusion" - and on to "abandoned tracks of unexpected insight". "Me and the Muses" has each of the classical-Greek muses interacting with our hero in... not always classical ways: "Melpomene, Tragic Muse, hit me with her car".
"Avoiding procrastination" amused me because I have trouble with that myself; the author's suggestion, after some wandering around, is to find a task that's even worse and procrastinate about that instead, by getting back to his writing. Not sure I can make that work for me, but I'll give it a try!
Another favorite: "Good Morning", in which "the sound of rain on rooftop and windowpane is the universe applauding your decision to remain in bed". The illustrations match beautifully, with the last panel showing a person snoozing happily with curled-up-cat at hand as the rain beats down.
I also loved "An Incantation", a two-page spread showing the author trying to work, while rhyming couplets accompany the artwork: "...boil some coffee in a pot, drink it till there comes a thought" and "the spell will break with morning sun - magically, some work got done."
Favorite punny page: "The Elephants of Style", showing different typographic styles and elements, all illustrated with, of course, elephants.
Oh, and "My Biggest Fears" - ranging from "taking the wrong bus" to "disembodied floating skulls"!
