I got this hardcover, signed by the author to a previous owner, at the Book Cellar. I've enjoyed other books by Kurlansky, including Cod, Salt, and - my favorite so far - The Big Oyster. This one focuses on Gloucester, the historic Massachusetts port, which I've visited on several occasions, along with Rockport and Dogtown and other spots on Cape Ann. Another great mix of history and ecology.
