The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Unfortunately, I was not as impressed with this as I had expected to be, after so much hype. Living in the Netherlands. I was looking forward to learning more about the history of my adopted country. This didn’t really fit the bill, for some reason. Fortunately, the BBC made an excellent two-part adaptation that is well worth watching.

Amsterdam - 1686 : enough reasons for me to take this book home, and then The Miniaturist also looks new and enticing. A great find at our BC-meeting, thank you very much bookguide!

SPOILER-ALERT...............SPOILER ALERT
Ahum.

I think Enitnaj may like this book, since I saw mainly fairly recent literature on her wishlist.
Enitnaj, I hope you'll enjoy this book the way sneeuws intended with her 'positive vibes' -raffle!

Thanks so much for this nice surprise, Hendrickje, a beautiful book and some nice teas, it doesn’t get much more positive in my world 😊
For me, this was an impressive book, but not in the way I expected it to be, when I received it. The role of the poppenhuis is quite different then expected.
SPOILER-SPOILER-SPOILER-SPOILER-SPOILER
And with Hendrickje I’m a bit dissapointed that the mysterie around the miniaturist is not really solved. And what will happen to the people in the house of the dolphin, and to the sugar that hadn’t been sold by the time Johannes departs... I wasn’t really aware of the submitted position of women in the golden ages. I mean, I knew they were not equal to men, but that it was like this I never really realized.
Some of the plot I did see coming, but there was enough suspense to want to keep reading, after I overcame my first awkward feelings with reading about Amsterdam in English (with all the Dutch names and all)
Thank you for sending this wonderful book to me in the positive vibes swap, Hendrickje, I’ll keep this book to pass on in a meeting, if we’re ever allowed to meet again...

This book will travel to Koekiebak today!
Enitnaj gave me the book two weeks ago.
It took me a while to get into the story, but then, suddenly, I really LOVED it! It was a slow, but enjoyable and interesting read. I'm even sorry that it's finished already... So thanks, Enitnaj!
I will find a good destination for it...
