For fans of Rosamunde Pilcher, a heart-warming romantic novel set in Cornwall from the bestselling author of THE CORNISH HOUSE and A CORNISH AFFAIR.

There's an old Cornish saying: 'Save a stranger from the sea, he'll turn your enemy . . .'

When her reclusive grandmother becomes too frail to live alone, Gabriella Blythe moves into the remote waterside cabin on Frenchman's Creek which has been her grandmother's home for decades. Once a celebrated artist, Jaunty's days are coming to a close but she is still haunted by events in her past, particularly the sinking of Lancasteria during the war.

Everything is fine until a handsome stranger arrives in a storm, seeking help. Fin has been left a family legacy: a delicate watercolour of a cabin above the creek which leads him to this beautiful stretch of Cornish water. As Fin begins to pick at the clues of the painting, he is drawn into the lives of Gabe and Jaunty, unraveling a remarkable story of identity and betrayal . . .

In this delightful novel, Liz Fenwick weaves a spell-binding tale of romance and intrigue, set against the gorgeous Cornish coast.

I bought this book because the "Cornish Affair" was enjoyable to read. This here is different,
the mood so much darker. I am not sure I liked it. Again I have a problem when people don't talk to each other. Like Jaunty speaks four languages fluently and Gabe does wonder about it but never asks her why? Or she suspects Fin of giving "the secret" to the press but doesn't confront him, just shuts him of her life?
What I also couldn't understand is why Gabe sometimes can't live without him and the next minute he is out of her life forever and then back again to "I can't keep my fingers from him..."??
I found Gabe and Fin somewhat bland, nondescript.

Besides this - a story like Jaunty's is absolutely plausible..

And as an afterthought - Gabe is a singer, ok. But she sings "Vissi d'arte"and other Soprano Arias and longs to sing "Carmen"? this is a Mezzo Aria (and I would say a pretty dark one!).. as a musician this is something which really rankles me..

This was sent as a sort of RABCK... I actually enjoyed this quite a lot. Stuck with a bad back, it kept me occupied while I was remaining immobile most of the day. (I know, you're supposed to move around with back pain, but that hurt, whereas sitting still did not).
I agree with much of what Kiki66 had to say (not to mention Gabe's lifelong wish to sing Carmen!) but found it an engrossing read nonetheless. I appreciated Fin's very measured way of explaining things towards the end, and was a bit confused by Gabe's constant distrust - presumably caused by her experience..
I did find her reactions at times almost childish -refusing to confront Fin with her suspicions, for example.
Nonetheless very grateful to Kiki66 for the lovely books.
