I got this softcover at Toadstool Books in Peterborough NH, for another release copy.

I've enjoyed a lot of Huff's writing, especially her "Blood" series about a modern-day vampire and his feisty detective lover Vicki; when I saw that this collection of short stories by Huff included a couple of stories about the "Blood" characters I knew I had to have it. The stories have been reprinted from other anthologies, several of which I've already read - but at least one of the "Blood" stories is new to me, and some of the other tales deserve to be reprinted, especially those whose original books are hard to find.

Among the contents: from "Single White Vampire Seeks Same" - "Someone to Share the Night," a bittersweet/funny tale about Henry (the vampire), set AFTER the events of the last "Blood" novel [so don't read this before finishing the series if you don't want to encounter some spoilers]; from "The Bakka Anthology" - "Another Fine Nest," about Vicki and Celucci from the "Blood" series; from "Swords of the Rainbow" and "Stealing Magic" - "Swan's Braid," a lovely fantasy tale about a young thief who, to gain her admittance to the local Thieves Guild, must steal the braid of the beautiful (and deadly) bandit Swan; from "Bending the Landscape: Fantasy" and "Stealing Magic" - "In Mysterious Ways," another tale about Terizan, the thief from "Swan's Braid"...

Definitely a nice collection, mostly on the light side but with a few darker tales. Among my favorites: "All Things Being Relative," in which a court scribe is tapped to take down the queen's memoirs - The Dark Queen, it will be, as this is the type of queen who did not let any chit of a girl with a posse of dwarves get the better of her {grin}. I liked "Someone To Share The Night" as well on re-reading it, and the other "Blood" story (featuring Vicki and Mike, post-"Blood"-series) was an almost Buffy-the-Vampire-Slayer-style adventure (with, I think, a reference to same!). There's also the deconstructionist "Nights of the Round Table," in which the cleaning women chat about how difficult it is to buff out the spur-marks on the table-top and other such sidelights. Ancient Egypt, futuristic genetic manipulation, swords-and-sorcery - a diverse collection of subjects and an enjoyable anthology.
