From goodreads.com:
"These brief and telling stories of rustic life and love are set in the remote and barren Tras-os-Montes - "over the mountains" - region of North East Portugal. The author speaks of the men and women living there, complex in emotion and thought, and elusive and thrifty with words."

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
Miguel Torga is one of my favorite portuguese writers. He's unpretencious, and he always wrote about his home region, Trás-Os-Montes, as if the region needed to be immortalized on paper so that people would not forget.
Today I finished the last of these beautiful stories - it took me a while, as I read one per day, and thus had started 45 days ago. It's a great collection, the stories capture life in the Tras-os-Montes region so well - not that I know the region, but that's what's coming across strongly. Most are rather sad, as poverty is widespread, some are touching, others surprising. There were only very few I couldn't relate to.
I had planned to take the book with me to Portugal and give it to a friend whom I had planned to meet there, my journey was to start tomorrow. But this is not going to happen due to the corona crisis. Hopefully in September. And the book is travelling by mail.

I would have left for Lissabon in 2 days. Instead, I get to read this little book to put me in the mood of Portugal. Can't wait to see you again, ApoloniaX, in Berlin or Portugal or wherever. And in the meantime I'll do what you did: read 1 chapter per day. Thanks for sending me the book!
I'm not the biggest fan of short stories, but this little book was very enjoyable. I liked the vivid descriptions of the people and area. I've never read much about or from Portugal, so this was a great little introduction.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
I finally managed to travel to Lisboa! On my first day here I coincidentally found the grave of several Portuguese authors. This seemed a fitting place to leave this little book.
If you find this book I would be happy for you to make a journal entry. You do not have to sign up with bookcrossing to make a journal entry

Dark tales, beautifully written. Relatable Messages and learnings to even modern day life. I took it to the other side of Europe after finding it at the grave last year and will drop it off somewhere soon. Sorry for the delay everyone :)
