About the Book:
For the first eighteen years of her life, Rose Gold Watts believed she was seriously ill. She was allergic to everything, used a wheelchair and practically lived at the hospital. Neighbors did all they could, holding fundraisers and offering shoulders to cry on, but no matter how many doctors, tests, or surgeries, no one could figure out what was wrong with Rose Gold.

Turns out her mom, Patty Watts, was just a really good liar.

After serving five years in prison, Patty gets out with nowhere to go and begs her daughter to take her in. The entire community is shocked when Rose Gold says yes.

Patty insists all she wants is to reconcile their differences. She says she's forgiven Rose Gold for turning her in and testifying against her. But Rose Gold knows her mother. Patty Watts always settles a score.

Unfortunately for Patty, Rose Gold is no longer her weak little darling...

And she's waited such a long time for her mother to come home.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

My Review:
As soon as a heard this book was coming out, I knew it was going on my Wishlist.
It's been a while since I read a book of this kind, but this thrilling tale of a mother with Munchausen syndrome by proxy (MSBP) and the lasting effect it had on both her life and her daughter's, was a real stand out read for me so far this year.
The book itself draws upon the real-life Gypsy Rose Blanchard case, which was unknown to me until after I had read this book.

Sending this one on it's travels for the Send your current read RABCK ..... (just because) thread.

Thank you for the surprise!

I first encountered Munchausen syndrome by proxy thanks to Jonathan Kellerman's Devil's Waltz - before that I had no idea about that particular flavor of child abuse: it's a fascinating, horrifying, and infuriating subject. This sounds like an interesting twist...I had no idea it was based on a real situation.

I've also read Julie Gregory's first-hand account of her childhood: Sickened.

I'm not terribly into pink, but I do like this cover art.
