I remember some lovely Penelope Lively stories from my childhood, but this is the first of her adult novels I've tried. A beautifully written account of the complexity of human relationships and how, ultimately, we can know a person for many years without really knowing what's going on inside their head. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did.
