Lost On The Amazon by R. A. Montgomery takes YOU on an adventure to the magical Amazon River basin, home to the greatest biodiversity on planet Earth. 9-12 year old readers will trek through the jungle and help the South & Central American forest people fight a tropical disease epidemic, while confronting evil spirits at every turn.

Choose Your Own Adventure Lost On The Amazon is an interactive adventure book in which YOU decide what happens next.

You arrive in the South American jungle and part of your team is missing. Should you explore the Amazon alone? Many people need your help! Although you are a doctor, and your specialities are greatly needed, this dense, tropical forest has more secrets than it has survivors....

I took this book from the Little Free Library while dropping off some books of my own. I love choose-your-own-adventure books, and will try and let this one travel somewhere interesting!

Later: There are plenty of alternative plots here, some of them with unexpected endings. Oh, there are some scary/deadly ends, some ignominious failures, a few successes - and several oddly vague ones, where the viewpoint character is still in the jungle, possibly on the way to something interesting or perhaps just waiting until other characters resolve matters, but with the story simply stopping at that point. I rather liked this - it conveyed the vague unease of being in such alien territory with so little control over one's fate, but it was also frustrating at times.

The plots included real-world dangers - poisonous creatures, armed foes, unreliable guides - and more fanciful ones, such as tribal magic with very definite power over humans, and even some ghosts...

I plan to leave this book on a bench at or near Red's Eats while in the area for their fabulous lobster rolls. Hope someone enjoys the book!
