My mom gave me this book as a Christmas present in 1999.
c. 1998 -- 324 pages -- Paperback -- the NY Times Bestseller -- with a new Afterword for this edition
Back Cover: A remarkable book ... Reeve's autobiography is distinguished not only by the dignified candor with which he describes his utterly changed world but also by his emotional directness ... Long hours of soul-searching have resulted in a heightened eloquence ... "Still Me" may be the most important contribution Reeve could ever make to his healing, to his family, to his public ... [He] communictes so well, in fact, that it's easy to forget that every word of "Still Me" has been wrested from a body in revolt against a mind clarified by adversity. This is a feat to daunt even Superman. -- Entertainment Weekly

I finished reading this book on 6/16. I enjoyed this touching story of the life of Superman. It was good to hear about his history and all the acting (plays) he's done. I really liked how his friendship with Robin Williams developed when they were both at school at Juliard. It was good to see he was able to make some progress with congress in helping people with disabilities.

When the newest Superman movie came out, I didn't want to see it because I felt no one could play the part better than Christopher Reeve. So it was good to know his own opinion on the matter ... (Quote page 196) "I think I was the right actor for the part at the time I played it, but I think the role is larger than any particular actor and should be reinterpreted from generation to generation. As Kirk Alyn was right for the '40s and George Reeves was right for the '50s, I was the temporary custodian of this icon of American pop culture in the '70s and early '80s. Now rumor has it that Nicolas Cage will be the Superman of the late '90s." Now I'll have to see the 2006 version of Superman starring Brandon Routh.
I also want to watch the movie "Somewhere in Time" which was filmed on Mackinac Island on Lake Michigan. I fully agree with what Reeve says about the place. (Quote, page 201) "Just to visit the island is to journey into the past. The most prominent landmark is the Grand Hotel, built by railroad money in the mid-19th century. It still looks brand new. No cars are allowed on the island, although we received special permission to bring our equipment trucks over on a barge. When you finish dinner at one of the restaurants, you call for a cab, and soon a horse and buggy arrive to take you to your lodgings. Over the years I've met hundreds of people who have the same feelings about Mackinac that I had: it is an enchanted island where time has stood still."
It was so sad when he passed away on 10/10/04 ... 9.5 years after his accident. Then even more terribly sad was the death of his wife, Dana Reeve on 3/6/06 from lung cancer.
