On Discworld, eight is the holy number. The eighth son of an eighth son becomes a wizard, this is common knowledge. However, the eight son of an eighth son of an eighth son will be a sorcerer who is a wizard squared. Much too powerful and dangerous - thus wizards are forbidden to marry and prevented from having sons at all.
Ipslore the Red failed to obey the Rules of Magic, he fell in love, fled the Unseen University, married and had eight sons (nothing is recorded about daughters). Therefore a sorcerer was born on Discworld ... and he shall bring chaos, war and the apocalypse.
The 5th Discworld novel features the most untalented wizard Rincewind, the Luggage, the Librarian, DEATH and a hairdresser called Conina who is the daughter of Conan the Barbarian.
