The Salt Road

I bought this book at a used book shop in my neighbouring city of Kitchener, Ontario. It was on a 3/$5 rack and it seemed like it had an interesting setting (Morocco; I am currently participating in an Around the World reading challenge) so I thought I would give it a try!
I didn't end up using this book back in 2019 but I'm doing the Around the World challenge again in 2021 and I've used it now instead!
This book is rather sweeping, kind of epic... It's a lot to take in, and the writer's approach is a bit of a non-traditional style. It sort of tells two stories at the same time and you don't know for sure what they have to do with each other until the very end. It held my interest well, though.
This book is set amongst the Tuareg people of North Africa-- a culture that I know virtually nothing about, so it was interesting to learn something about that but also took me longer to get through the book as I'd find myself googling things and going down rabbit holes from time to time, lol! I was glad to have the little glossary at the back, but I found it pretty incomplete.
As for the story itself, there were times when I thought that there was stuff that could have stood to be cut out before the final draft of the novel... But the ending made it worthwhile for me anyway. The ending made me feel happy and hopeful, and that's something that I need to take where I can find right now.

Journal Entry 3 by JessicaEby at Goderich Beach in Goderich, Ontario Canada on Sunday, April 18, 2021
Left at the main beach, headed down towards the pier...it is in a protective bag, on top of the historical marker about Goderich Harbour. Since the plaque talks about the importance of salt in the area and it's located within sight of the world's largest salt mine, I thought this would be a fun place to leave The Salt Road.
If you've found this book, thanks for picking it up and checking out its journal! If you're new to bookcrossing, welcome. We'd love it if you'd stick around with us a while. I really hope that you enjoy both this book and the whole bookcrossing experience!
This book was released as part of the "52 Towns in 52 Weeks" Release Challenge. Travel is still not much of a thing here, but there have been a few places now that I have had to go, so Goderich is Town #7 for me.
