On May 10, 1869 the linking of two railroads between the Mississippi Valley and the Rocky Mountains at Promontory, Utah, ushered in a new era in the history of the U.S. Safe, quick, and reliable transportation had finally subdued the hostile western landscape and opened up the American frontier. The same year, William Fraser Rae undertook the 3,000 mile journey by rail from New York to San Francisco. This is the author's account of that wonderful trip across America, in the year 1869! This is one of my favorite books, and thankfully, I have two of them. Hopefully, this hard cover edition will fall in the hands of another history lover! And then be released, to find another, and another and another...
