I got this hardcover at Porter Square Books in Cambridge MA while in the area for a BookCrossing Meetup. Subtitled "Celebrating nature's survivors," it deals with forms of life from the earliest bacteria through mollusks and lichens, beetles and geckos, grasses and squirrels, coyotes - and humans. Each has stylish illustrations, a summary of the origins and evolution of the different lifeforms, and in some cases a poem. A handsome look at a tiny subset of life on Earth.

I left this book in the Little Free Library at the YMCA; hope someone enjoys it!
