I found this softcover in this lovely new Little Free Library in Amherst NH while dropping off some books of my own.

I enjoyed Backman's A Man Called Ove, but this one didn't appeal to me quite as much. It's about a precocious 7-year-old named Elsa, who's attached to her seriously-dotty grandmother - and when the grandmother dies, leaving many (many, many!) letters of apology to people she's wronged in her life, Elsa takes this as a quest, though from her viewpoint the real world crosses over with the imaginary one that she and her grandmother used to share.

The concept's good - and in some ways reminded me of Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close - but the execution... just didn't work for me. I couldn't quite like Elsa, and the choppy writing style felt awkward, and - well, for whatever reason, I didn't get into this one. Ah, well!
