UPDATE: I enjoyed the story very much. At some points, I'd get disturbingly distressed and sad, maybe because I really love chickens... Nevertheless, it is a very beautiful tale about sacrifices of parenthood. Be aware, it might make you weep.

Certainly a lovely little story / fable / parable / allegory / whatever.
And the illustrations are delightful. I just have a bit if a problem with the message that motherhood is the only worthwhile goal in life. Though I guess it could be different for chickens . . . ;-)
Apart from that, it exudes wisdom and charm, with Sprout embodying all good qualities: loyalty, bravery, acceptance, selflessness, unconditional love, individuality etc.
