Cat quilter Jillian Hart finds a gorgeous stray cat belonging to the fabulously wealthy Ritaestelle Longworth, who believes she's being drugged. Before Jillian can get to those charges, a body turns up in the lake-and her cat Chablis finds Ritaestelle nearby. Can Jillian's cats aid her in solving a mystery with decades old roots?

I really enjoy reading these cozy mysteries with cats by Leann Sweeney. :)

Thanks! If I had time, I would love to make a quilt. Unfortunately I don't have a very artistic eye either, so time is not the only thing missing...

I was sitting in the car, waiting my friend to do the shopping and had nothing else than this to read. Not bad at all. Except in Finland people have two weeks to come and collect their pets from the "pound", after that they will be either killed or re-homed. Those owners whose pets have some kind of ID will be notified, but unless they come and collect their pets they won't get them back. Nobody would repeatedly try to contact an owner who is not "available" for them. Private charities hold pets longer, trying to find them new homes, but two weeks is the time they have to wait for the former owner to claim her pet.
Pic: One of our clients has a Mr Robertson of her own greeting guests. He used to belong to her grandfather back in the late 19th century, so he is we'll over 100 years old.

Have to comment while reading. Buttons, definately no toys for cats. String is even worse, but buttons are swallowed sometimes and not all of them pass through. So cats and quilting do not go well together.
When I grew up we spent summers in the country and I was always playing with the farmhouse girls next door. Their cats were working cats, hunting mice outside. Only one cat at a time was a pet and was also taken in during the day when it merely slept or ate. It was always put out for the night during summer. Other cats were outdoor cats living in the stable or cow-house. So in my mind a cat should live somewhere in the countryside where it has free access to hunt outside, far enough from big roads, and to come inside to rest or out of bad weather. It should be neutered or spayed, so there would not be unwanted kittens growing half wild. I pity cats who spend all their lives inside. They lack so much what in my mind is the essence of being a cat. What if you live in the middle of a city? Do not take a cat.

Less than hundred pages to go and I have my suspicions. This has been a fast read.
I do know the feeling of liking strangers more than relatives; friends you can choose. Inheriting just about anything brings out surprising features in people you thought you knew. It was just last month I changed my will. As I have no children, I am in a position where I can decide who gets something and who does not get anything and I have used my power. Why would I give something to family members I hardly know - or know too well - if I can give something to my friends who have given me much more joy over the years?
I also know about Alzheimers and other memory affecting diseases as they run in the family. Man wasn't meant to live as long as is nowadays possible. I do not wish anybody a long life, I wish them health and clarity of mind. Without those two, life is not worth living.

Finished. My suspicions weren't wrong, but they changed a few times... A sign good plotting. I'd like to read more books from this series.
